Day 1: Tangier - Chefchaouen
Arrive at Tangier by boat or plane from Spain. Our 6-day tour from Tangier to Marrakech begins as we head to the famous blue city of Chefchaouen, located in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco.
Chefchaouen is known for its stunning blue-painted buildings. The old town has steep, cobbled streets lined with leather and weaving workshops. In the main square, Place Outa el Hammam, you will find the red-walled Kasbah, a 15th-century fortress and museum. Nearby, the Great Mosque stands out with its unique octagonal minaret.
The name Chefchaouen comes from the Berber word meaning “look at the horns,” referring to the shape of the surrounding mountains. The city offers breathtaking panoramic views, making it a perfect place to admire the beauty of the medina. Overnight stay in Chefchaouen.
Day 2: Chefchaouen - Fes
After breakfast, we leave Chefchaouen and head to Fes. In Fes, we will visit the Royal Palace, the Jewish Quarter (Mellah), and a viewpoint offering a great view of the South Tower and the city’s many mosques.
Fes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its medieval streets and lively atmosphere. The old city is filled with guilds of potters, dyers, and artisans. Walking through the bustling streets feels like traveling back in time.
One of the highlights is the water clock “La Magana Bounania,” built over 1,200 years ago. It’s a true marvel of ancient engineering. Overnight stay in a traditional riad in Fes.
Day 3: Fes - Middle Atlas - Ziz Valley - Merzouga Desert
In the morning, we begin our journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” for its Alpine-style charm. This area is home to the Atlas lion, a symbol of the city. We’ll take some photos here before continuing.
Next, we pass through the cedar forests, where we may see Barbary macaques, and stop to admire the famous Cedar Gouraud tree. After lunch in Midelt or Rich, we travel through the Ziz Valley, known for its 10 million palm trees, one of the largest palm groves in the world.
We then arrive in Merzouga, where we prepare for a camel caravan ride into the Sahara Desert. At sunset, we reach the dunes and settle in a desert camp. Enjoy a traditional dinner and spend the night under a spectacular sky filled with stars.
Day 4: Merzouga Desert - Todra Gorges - Dades Valley - Ouarzazate
Start the day early to watch the sunrise over the desert dunes. After breakfast, we return to Merzouga and drive to Erfoud, where we can visit a fossil workshop.
We continue through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad before arriving at the Todra Gorges. These massive rock walls, carved by the Todra River, are a paradise for climbers and nature lovers. We’ll have lunch here and take a short walk to enjoy the stunning scenery.
In the afternoon, we pass through the Dades Valley, also known as the Valley of Figs. Along the way, we stop to explore the famous “Route of the Thousand Kasbahs,” the Valley of Roses, and the Skoura palm groves. Our day ends in Ouarzazate, where we stay overnight in a riad.
Day 5: Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - High Atlas - Marrakech
